Swipe Right: Seating that’s a Keeper for Drama-Free Cleaning

Blog

A great-looking profile isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Red flags are always lurking. Dig just a little deeper and it can be pretty obvious—ask a couple questions—swipe left.

Things true of people can also go for seating products.

Judging any chair solely on appearance doesn’t do selection any justice. Overlooking the details can leave purchasers stuck in a bad relationship that spreads discontent to the entire staff.

Only then, escape is no longer at the tip of your finger.

That’s why we’re taking this space today to talk about the importance of cleanability, and how it figures so prominently in what we do in terms of design, construction, and components.

Favorites for resisting bacteria and fighting infection

Illness-causing microbes look for small crevices and flaws to set up residence, especially in chairs found in lab and healthcare environments. Keeping them out takes putting the right kind of materials in—the sort that can stand up to more frequent and longer exposure to powerful cleaners and EPA-certified disinfectants (ex., bleach/water ratio of 1:10).

At ground zero, seating requires tight-fitting, seamless assembly with smooth, easy-to-clean surface types and finishes, featuring articulating controls that wipe down easily. Other “must-haves” in both educational and industrial settings can include non-porous, chemically resistant vinyl seats and backs, and uniformly welded footrings with chrome or tough powder coat finishes.

Top-quality components and exceptional manufacturing go hand-in-hand

Rugged, durable, and easy-to-clean, our ArmorSeat™ (GG) series is characterized by a proprietary polymer blend, complete with antimicrobial properties and UV inhibitors, that reinforce the clean-factor of the seat and backs in every chair without having to lift a finger. No recesses are present in the welded tubing found in models with steel bases and affixed footrings, nor gaps in the tops and sides of the hooded resistance casters underneath.

Additionally, both MVMT Pro and Tech models from our premium line, and select Elite Series seating may be ordered with non-porous, PVC chemical-resistant vinyl upholsteries. Vacuum-formed upholstered stools are also available as an option, enabling the seat to maintain its shape and performance over time, maximizing comfort while preventing the infiltration of bacteria and fluids by the elimination of upholstery seams.

A profile in leadership that looks and plays the part

The Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association (SEFA) Lab-Grade Seating Committee, co-chaired by BioFit, published the SEFA Lab-Grade Seating Cleaning Protocol. This effort standardized the step-by-step procedure that advocates how to safely clean and disinfect laboratory chairs and stools without damaging them or compromising lab hygiene.

Drawing on our engineering experience in minimizing particle and debris contamination at the manufacturing stage, we’ve both raised the bar for ourselves and shared that information with the industry at large.

That’s an example making BioFit well-worth following for effective cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting tips in the short run, and for help determining your next seating investment down the road.

And another reason why we’re a keeper.
