When designing chairs for specialized work environments such as laboratories and medical facilities, factors such as component and upholstery cleanability are paramount. We offer an extensive line of standard upholsteries and work with our supplier partners when custom solutions are needed. Need chairs in a hurry? BioFit delivers – fast. BioFit offers Next-Day Shipping (NDS) and 2-Day Shipping (2DS) on many of our most popular seating products. With our Quick Ship program, you can order limited quantities of select models for use in laboratory, healthcare, industrial, technical or office settings, as well as certain critical performance (cleanroom / ESD) applications.

Our History

BioFit’s story began in 1946 with a man named Rex Dawson who purchased a small chair-and-stool line from an Adrian, MI, company wishing to divest itself of the product line. Manufacture of the line began in the early 1950s under the name Rex Industries at the company’s first location in Bowling Green, OH. The chair line was named Ajustrite and offered industry-first mechanisms for making seating adjustments without tools.

In 1965, the company was purchased by the Fisher Family and renamed Ajusto. In a few short years, the Ajustrite line was expanded to include industry-changing cleanroom and ESD technology innovations. Once relocating in 1970 to its current building just south of Haskins, OH, Ajusto printed its first color catalogs and filed multiple patents: a mobile baby chair that maximized floor space in dining areas and a backrest push-button developed in answer to a customer challenge.

Throughout the 1980s, BioFit expanded its horizons with ventures into export operations and continued to push boundaries with patents for cleanroom technology and ergonomic seating solutions. BioFit introduced MicroCon upholstery in the early 1990s and demonstrated adaptability and versatility by venturing into the apparel market with the Aflex chair.

Embracing the digital age in 1996, BioFit launched its first website, connecting with a global audience and paving the way for future digital innovations.

In 2000, BioFit made history by becoming the first in its industry to introduce a chair configurator, revolutionizing the customization experience for customers. By 2005, BioFit’s dedication to multifunctional design was evident with the filing of a patent for the Convertible Bench Table (CBT), showcasing its commitment to space-saving solutions.

BioFit QRIn 2014, BioFit revolutionized the lab market with the MVMT® line of ergonomic technical seating, with industry-first synchronous seat adjustments made to accommodate a wide range of working postures and motions in technical applications. That same year, BioFit once again led the industry with the introduction of a revolutionary QR code system, enhancing accessibility and ease of use for customers. BioFit achieved EPA Green Partner status in 2022, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible practices. Building on its legacy of innovation, BioFit launched the FBT™ Series in 2023 and introduced the Embark Series in 2024, further solidifying its reputation as a pioneer in cutting-edge seating solutions.
