BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (July 15, 2014)— BioFit Engineered Products, a leading designer and manufacturer of ergonomic seating and mobile folding tables, today announced the invention of a patent pending part that will extend the usable life of the company’s tables. Called the “adjustable torsion cap,” the component was designed to restore the original level of torsion to the lift-assistance devices of previously marketed tables.  Resetting the torsion level facilitates folding and unfolding, eliminating the need to replace the lift bars.

Foldable tables utilize assist devices to help move the table from an unfolded open position to a folded closed position. Such devices are necessary as particular models can be large and heavy, making it difficult to fold and unfold the table without them. Assistance devices can also provide some resistance during the unfolding process, preventing the overly rapid movement of the sections of the table as it is unfolded.

When a table is folded into the storage position, there is little to no tension on the lift-assistance bars. However, when the table is unfolded for use, the legs rotate away from the table top, twisting the lift bars and creating torque. After years of folding and redeployment cycles, the bars can lose some lifting force. A decrease in lifting force is also prevalent in tables frequently left in the open position, which places tension on the lift-assistance device over the entire time the table is open.  Due to the weight of the tops of some table models, even a slight decrease in force can affect how easily the table can be lifted to the folded position and the speed at which it unfolds. BioFit discovered that the addition of an adjustment capability to the torsion cap design provided the ability to reestablish and maintain the original level of lift bar torque.  BioFit president Ed Metzger expanded on the benefit of the new part: “Moving forward, incorporating the adjustable torsion cap into our table design will eliminate an age-old issue with lift-assistance devices. The new cap will ensure the lift capability of tables through the life cycle of the product. This can enable customers to save money by prolonging the need to replace a table. Additionally, replacing original caps with the new adjustable cap will provide a cost effective way of refreshing the lift on older tables in the field.”

BioFit will install the adjustable torsion cap on all new tables which use lift assistance bars. The company will also offer retrofitting on previously sold tables on a case-by-case basis.

CHICAGO, Illinois (June 9, 2014) — BioFit Engineered Products will introduce an innovative concept in workplace seating – adding movement to the ergonomics of the chair itself – with the rollout of its MVMT™  line today at NeoCon 2014 in Chicago. Developed in collaboration with award-winning designer Bruce Fifield, of Studio Fifield, Milan, Italy, the MVMT line represents an entirely new direction for BioFit from aesthetic and user experience perspectives. It was created for use in multiple work environments, including those in the technology, laboratory, healthcare and industrial sectors, with crossover applications in the office market anticipated.

“The MVMT line follows the heritage of BioFit: a highly durable and technologically precise seating design, specifically engineered for critical applications such as clean room, static control/ESD and laboratory settings,” explained BioFit president, Ed Metzger. He continued: “The MVMT differs significantly from an aesthetic standpoint, however. Until now, you could walk into nearly any lab and the seating looked dated – practically mid-twentieth century. BioFit and Studio Fifield realize that in addition to performance, appealing looks impact corporate image, encourage users and help attract top talent.” Bruce Fifield built on the importance of the emotional connection, adding: “A chair needs to look like it is going to do what it is meant to do. In today’s specialized fields and institutions of higher learning, it needs to perform with the user and look sophisticated.”

With three series of three models each, the MVMT line is available in over a dozen clean room and joint clean room/ESD performance packages and literally thousands of configurations. The line was developed to provide greater ergonomic functionality and increased range of motion in higher-than-desk-height situations while meeting BIFMA standards – all while looking good in the workplace. A highlight is a weight-activated control – meaning an individual user’s weight sets the tension, which alleviates resetting controls in multi-user/multi-shift workplaces. A BioFit exclusive, it is the first weight-activated control in a predominantly non-office work chair. Other features include a 2.5” seat slide, pneumatic seat height adjustment, micro-tension control, forward seat tilt and smooth forward backrest adjustment for up-close work such as microscopy and assembly, and synchronous back/seat movement at 5:1 ratio. Additionally, medium and tall configurations are geared toward office use to help address user issues with standing-height workstations.

Bowling Green, OH—June is National Safety Month and a midway point in BioFit’s yearlong resolution to increase emphasis on ergonomics to enhance workplace safety and productivity. To fulfill this resolution, BioFit is encouraging organizations to provide ergonomic seating and furnishing options for all workers.

As a leader in ergonomic chair and furnishing solutions, BioFit develops products that promote a healthy and safe work environment, which can benefit any workplace setting from healthcare and education to industrial and office settings.

BioFit’s line of seating options addresses control over posture and problems associated with risk of ergonomic injuries. The ideal design helps reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and repetitive motion injuries, while also encouraging greater employee productivity. BioFit’s line of durable and ergonomically correct chairs are designed to meet industry standards and now include the new bimos by BioFit collection, an innovative addition to the already high standard of BioFit ergonomic seating options.

Although there is not a single correct seating posture, a fully adjustable ergonomic chair alleviates long-term sitting problems and the consequences associated with them. “Our chairs are designed to provide posture support while also maintaining freedom of movement,” Ed Metzger, president of BioFit, says. “Having the ability to move naturally while seated not only decreases the risk of injury, but it has also been proven to increase attentiveness and productivity. BioFit solutions can benefit any work setting and can help keep workers safe while avoiding preventable injuries.”

BioFit seating options include lumbar support, height adjustment and cushioned, adjustable armrests.  Components also include a seat that allows for even weight distribution, along with a five-legged pedestal base. Bowling Green, OH—BioFit, a worldwide leader in quality workplace furnishings, is set to debut the bimos by BioFit collection at NeoCon 2013 in Chicago next month. This series of seating solutions combines design elements from German seating manufacturer bimos with the proven ergonomic performance of BioFit. The first two chairs in the bimos by BioFit collection—Sintec and Fin—are slated for full-scale production soon, with another two selections—Unitec and All-in-One—scheduled for release later in the year.

Both BioFit and bimos are renowned for their emphasis on ergonomic seating solutions for a wide range of workplaces, from laboratories and healthcare facilities to educational environments, industrial settings and offices. By working with the forward-thinking design that bimos provides, BioFit is able to take its line of seating solutions in a bold new direction.

The Sintec chair features a futuristic design that complements modern workspaces. In addition, the Sintec offers an added level of flexibility and convenience with innovative removable seat and backrest pads, which are available in cloth upholstery, vinyl or self-skinned urethane. bimos has built lumbar support into the Sintec backrest that meets the BioFit rigorous ergonomic standards, and the pneumatic control—guaranteed for life by BioFit—ensures the optimal seat height for practically any worker.

Fin offers an ideal solution for workers who would normally spend the majority of their day standing, offering a swiveling seat placed on a forward-leaning column. The Fin’s ergonomic design takes stress off of the user’s legs and feet, redistributing weight over the wide seat and the inclined column. With slim lines and a sturdy base, the Fin is well-suited to a wide array of work environments, virtually any place where workers are often required to stand for extended periods.

According to BioFit president Ed Metzger, the bimos by BioFit collection, “enables us to reinforce both our commitment to quality and our dedication to design. It’s also an opportunity to put our uniquely American stamp on Europe’s leading workplace seating manufacturer. We are looking forward to bringing this global partnership to work environments throughout the United States and Canada.”
